A trip hop project. A physical feeling.
It starts at the neck. A beat you notice because your own body is already keeping it.
Pulse Under is trip hop written from that sensation. Tempos stay near sixty beats a minute so there is room between the hits. The subbass is rounded rather than loud: a weight in the chest more than a sound in the ear. Drums are brushed and slightly late, never marching. Chords sit low and warm, with a minor ninth left unresolved so the harmony keeps leaning forward.
Desire, breath, tension
Voices are recorded close enough to hear the air around them. Breath is part of the arrangement, not something to edit out. The songs are about wanting something and not saying it yet — desire held at low volume, the moment before a surface gives way.
Under
Pulse is life. Under is what acts below the surface without revealing itself completely: pressure from beneath a membrane, a filament of light finding its path through dark material. The visual world of this project is built entirely from that idea.
